SN 27249 (1863) - all matching. Bore is about excellent - bright and shiny with sharp rifling but shows just a few areas of minor roughness, mainly near the muzzle. Excellent action with perfect timing and lock-up. This Starr has the very rare dull nickel or "tinned" finish that is original to the gun, indicating that it was probably intended for naval use. The metal is excellent overall and shows some very light corrosion on the edges of the top strap - the barrel and frame retain about 80% finish - cylinder about 60% - 65% with balance flaked - all markings are sharp and clear with crisp ""D" sub- inspector mark on the trigger guard extension. Grip is undamaged and retains about 95% finish with a clear cartouche on the left side but only a faint outline appears on the right side. The Starr SA was a very rugged and reliable revolver and the most common CW revolver after the Colt and Remington and was a favorite in the cavalry units where it was mostly issued. This revolver likely has an interesting history in view of the rather rare "tinned" finish, sub-inspector marking, and cartouche and it most likely was ordered for Naval use. A very sharp, fully functional and all original 1858 Army in Fine condition that should make a fine addition to a Civil War collection. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: STARR ARMS CO.
