Description:
Very Good Tower Enfield Pattern 53 Percussion Rifle Musket in .577 cal. 39" round barrel with blade front sight, rear ladder sight, three barrel bands and both sling swivels. The finish on the medal components has been replaced with a light brown /gray patina and light pitting on metal surfaces. Lock plate is marked with a crown behind the hammer and "TOWER / 1863" forward of the hammer. Left rear of barrel stamped with all five Birmingham proof marks; 1)Provisional Proof, 2) bore gauge "25", 3) View Mark, 4) another 25 gauge mark & 5) definitive proof mark. Full length military wood stock with what appears to be entry and exit bullet damage that has been nicely repaired. Stock has ‘Birmingham Small Arms Trade’ marks on rear left stock, brass butt plate with top tang & shows moderate wear. Brass trigger guard and stock fore-end tip. Musket comes with US marked socket bayonet with a 17" triangular blade & replacement full length swollen head metal ramrod & leather sling.
