Mr. Smith was regarded as perhaps the finest precision rifle maker in southern California in the 1950’s and until his death in the 1970’s. It is built in a featherweight configuration with a 24” fast tapered barrel on a pre-64 action that has been trued and tuned as a custom gun would be; and the bolt has been polished and engine turned. The stock work is nothing short of fabulous. The handsomely grained stock is fitted to perfection; it has a shadow line cheek piece that actually rolls to the opposite side of the stock; a very interesting ebony forend tip; ebony grip cap with brass diamond inlay; a Neidner style checkered steel butt plate with hinged compartment; and an incredibly detailed and intricate fleur de lis checkering pattern. Some old notes attribute the stock work to Lenard Brownell but I have no way to support that claim. Regardless of who the craftsman was that made this stock it is master quality work! LOP is 13 ¼”. Scope is a Leupold VX II 2-7x36 compact with Leupold mounts. 98%+ with just a couple of light handling marks in the stock. Weighs 8 lbs and the trigger breaks at 2 lbs 10 oz. Fabulous rifle. SOLD |
