Description:
Remington Model 1871 Army Rolling Block Pistol - Cal. .50 CF - 8" Bbl. - single shot - SN 5281 (1872) - 5281 is stamped in the inner frame and on the grip - 5094 is also stamped on the inner frame and I think this is an assembly number..  The bore on this 1871 Army is near perfect - bright with sharp rifling  and only a very tiny and  barely visible spot near the muzzle - action is perfect and tight. Metal is overall excellent with no pits or corrosion - the barrel shows some scattered very light surface oxidation and retains 85% - 90% blue with some thinning in a couple of areas.  The trigger guard and extension retain 90% blue -  the frame has about 70% or better darkening case color with sharp markings and the "P" and "S" sub-inspectors stamps. The walnut grips are sound and solid and retain 95% finish with a clear cartouche on the left side - the forend has a couple of light suface dings.  The 1871 Army Rolling Block  was made 1872- 1888 and about 6000 were produced, some 5000 for the military and the rest went to the civilian market. This early production Rolling Block is all original and in Fine or better overall condition and being rather scarce in today's market, will make a nice addition to an early Remington or US martial  collection.
