Description:
A percussion pistol from the famous MANTON of London firm. The action is strong. The hammer holds on full and 1/2 cock. There is a front and a rear sight and an unmarked escutcheon plate on the grip which is nicely checkered. The heavy 8" octogon barrel is in .72 caliber. The overall length is 12 & 1/2 ".The lock, hammer and barrel tang are engraved. The barrel top is (faintly) marked "Manton London". John Manton was in business from 1780 to 1820. This pistol was likely made between 1800 and 1820.
Except for a slight difference in the trigger guard design, this pistol is identical (condition aside) to my # 62, Guns International # 100604502.
