Description:
This is the hinged breech or trapdoor shotgun. Ethan Allen was a very innovative firearms designer who came up with the trapdoor system for the US Government. He also employed different versions of it on his own firearms. This one is marked "Ethan Allen and Co Worcester Mass" and has patent dates on the rib of the trapdoor. Actually a very good idea that was simple, effective and worked. The metal has been cleaned and is mostly a silver/grey color. They did not overdue it and most markings and engravings are visible. Metal condition is VG overall. Hammers and triggers work. Stocks are in reasonably good condition. It has had a coat of finish put on at some time. If you are looking for something different from a famous American designer, this would be a good shotgun for you.
