Description:
High condition 10ga.hammer gun marked "J.H.Johnson Pittsburgh".This gun has 30" barrels of fine damascus with bright bores and excellent wall thickness. Both barrels average .045" walls. The action retains traces of the original case colors. The border engraving is well executed. The barrels are on face and lock up tight. The wood is very sound with no cracks or damage. The gun weighs 8-12 and balances like a much lighter gun.The steel buttplate is numbered to the gun.J.D.Johnson was a trade name for Great Western Distributors of Pittsburgh.Great Western imported many guns in the late 1880s.I think this gun was actually built in England. However, there are no proof marks on the barrels or receiver. This is an excellent example of quality gunmaking and would be a fun gun for vintager shoots. It is really in great condition for a gun built around 1885.
