Description:
Serial #J29779, .303 British, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1918 dated rifle that has matching numbers on the bolt (correctly re-numbered) and nosecap with the metal retaining about 80% of the armory re-blue finish with silvering and fading along the exposed edges and projections. The bearing surfaces of the bolt (which has a later No. 4 type cocking-piece) have mild freckling and there are some shallow peen marks and pinprick pitting on the bolt knob. The top flat of the barrel has a crisp post-war "STERR/(eagle)/GENDARMERIE" stamp just ahead of the receiver and the walnut stock and handguards have numerous minor surface bruises and small blemishes throughout with still visible "D^D" ordnance stamps and markings on the right side of the butt next to the "168/EF" marked stock disk. Additionally, there are some with-the-grain drying cracks in the wood on the right of the butt with an old stenciled "R" in white paint and a carved name on the left ("PERAL"). This is a neat Lee-Enfield with rare post-war Austrian markings that is in very good shape overall. FFL or C&R
