Description:
Serial #686475, .22 LR, 6” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This handsome pinned and recessed revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, extractor, yoke, and barrel with the metal retaining 98-99% of the original blue with only some faint traces of silvering at the muzzle and a very mild turn-ring on the cylinder. The hammer and trigger retain a like amount of the original color case-hardening with touches of minor gray fading along the projecting edges and contact points, and the original Call bead front sight is still present. The walnut diamond-center S&W medallion grips are numbered to the gun on the interior and are in nearly excellent condition with very little wear and only a few minor handling marks and blemishes, as well they have two minor lots cut at the top of the inside that look to be for a grip adapter and a barely detectable repaired chip in the same area. The revolver is accompanied by a 2015 dated S&W factory letter that lists a ship date of April 29, 1940, to W.H. Hoegee, 138 Main St., Los Angeles, CA (the William H. Hoegee company was a large and well established sporting goods and outfitter at the time). With only a little over 1000 of these built this is a simply superb 5-screw K-22 and would make a fabulous addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
