Description: SOLD..Antique 1894 Winchester. VERY early 4 digit S/N. Very nice bore and excellent mechanics. Here is a good ole antique 1894 Winchester. In the very popular and great shooting 30-30 caliber. Has the standard 26" round barrel. The bore is very nice with very strong rifling all the way through to the muzzle and NOT all washed out at the muzzle from cleaning with a steel rod. You can see the rifling with the naked eye at the muzzle. Shows NO pitting and just very light frosting. With some shooting and cleaning it might rate to excellent !!! NO rings or bulges and this gun shoots great!!!! Feeds, fires and ejects smooth as silk. This gun also has a very early 4 digit S/N 7690 and made in 1894. The metal is an aged gray patina that has some specks of staining surface crud that has bee very lightly cleaned and reveals some very minor salt and pepper roughness. There is some on the top and right side of the barrel and a few scattered spots on the receiver. If you look at the photo of the barrel address you will see the depth of the pitting. It is not deep pitting into the metal at all and nothing that really detracts from this fine ole 94. Just want to mention it for a proper honest description. Still shows some nice blue on the lever block bottom of the receiver... Has the original rear sight and a later period of use front sight with a brass bead. The front sight is not a new sight and looks to have some age to it. It might even be an original special order sight !! Who knows. Still has the early heart or tear drop shaped hammer !! Both hammer notches are excellent and positive. The markings are all readable. The screw heads are nice and sharp and not all burred up. The wood is good. The forearm has the common grain split on the bottom. {see photo}. It is tight and not loose. It has a couple other shorter and very minor grain splits that are solid. The butt stock is nice with only a very short 1/2" grain split on the left side just below the upper tang. Again, these are very minor and still solid. The worst by far is the split on the bottom of the forearm. I would be glad to send you close up photos of the wood if you can not see then in the photos I have taken. ALL the wood fits tight and above the metal and has never been cleaned on or messed with. Just shows the normal and honest dings and bruises that a 120 plus year old hunting rifle will show. This is a very respectable and very early 1894 Winchester. About the ealiest one you will find with out having to pay $2500++ for a no finish "first issue" with the famous 10 O'clock screw on the right side of the frame by the loading gate. I think those guns are very over rated but the public demand says othewise.. Here is a nice early one for a reasonable price and you can shoot this one for another 120 years. Has a great bore to boot !!!! Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos of the wood or the metal.
