Birmingham: 470 Nitro Express Double Rifle Made with a Very Large Action Body, 25" Chopper Lump Krupp Steel Ejector barrels, Dolls head rib extension, 1/4 rib with 1 standing & 3 folding rear sights with the 1st folding sight missing, Fold up night sight, Double triggers, Bushed strikers, Proved at 75 Cordite with a 500 grain bullet, 15 1/16"" L.O.P. over a 1", 11 lbs. 10 oz., Sling eyes, Engraved grip cap with initials, Anson forend release, The buttstock and forend wood remains solid, The bores are excellent to near excellent plus with sharp rifling the entire way, The barrels have been reblacked & now are at 95%, No case colors remain, The wood finish is at 90%, The checkering is 90% and remains sharp, A real big bore weight of 11 lbs. 10 oz. as this gun was built around a large and very stout action body with good beef in the Krupp steel barrels, 15 1/16" lop over a 1" pad. It is cased in a brass cornered leather case with a Midland trade label. This is one very stout Birmingham boxlock double rifle with a large action, great weight, chopper lump barrels, ejectors, excellent length of pull and excellent bores. It will shoot into 3" and the shooter mentioned it was a pleasure to shoot compared to other 470's. //////////////////////////////////// Midland Gun Co. was founded in 1887 and remained in business until the late 1950s when it was bought out by Parker Hale. Midland Gun Co. was headquartered in Birmingham on Bath Street and Price Street and later had an office in London. They imported firearms from the U.S. and many of those included Winchesters and were both an importer and exporter. They made components and actions for the trade.
