Description:
Serial #129085, 45-70 Gov’t, 22" extra lightweight barrel with a very good bore which shows strong rifling but with minor frosting within the grooves and a few light pits nearer the muzzle. The barrel and magazine tube retain perhaps 90%-92% original blue, the barrel showing a bit more wear which has toned to a dark gray patina, with some rub marks to pewter and a few light handling marks or scratches here and there. The magazine tube hanger and nose cap have toned to a dark plum-gray patina. The receiver retains some very good original blue, perhaps 85% remaining on the flats while the top radius and carry point of frame have toned to a mix of pewter and plum patina with light dings and handling marks sparsely scattered about, a few more moderate along the left receiver flat. The hammer retains some good color case-hardening while the lever has toned primarily to a silvery and gray case-hardened patina with generous traces of colors at the root. The shotgun butt-equipped butt stock rates very good with nearly all its original varnish and near overall minor dings and handling marks, the fore end shows a bit more wear with strong traces of original varnish; the rifle has the original sling swivel eyelets, fish-hook style swivels, and leather sling. There is a Lyman half-moon No. 4 ivory hunting front sight in place and what is likely the original sporting No. 22 rear sight (the bead insert is not present on the front sight). This is an attractive, yet also very usable, 1886 extra lightweight rifle in the most desirable of calibers. Factory information stored at Cody shows the following:
