Description:
JOHN PARKS, UPPER SUSQUEHANNA SCHOOL. Circa 1825 to 1835. Overall length: 52” with 37” octagonal barrel. .36 caliber Percussion rifle with double set triggers & weighing 7.11 lbs. Rifle has full Tiger Maple stock, no carvings and no patchbox. This rifle was made by John Parks, Sr. of Snyder County, working in Selinsgrove in the first half of the 19th century. The barrel, a full “octagon” is signed “J.P.”, whose initials are known to collectors of the Upper Susquehanna school of gunsmithing. The long slender tiger maple forestock has a brass wear-plate and there are four silver inlays including two on the cheek piece. Overall a nice early PA rifle.
