Description: Authentic, antique, Springfield Model 1873 .45-70 “Trapdoor” carbine. According to the serial number 123,465 on the receiver, and the visible cartouche, it was made in 1880. According to the National Archives it was one of 2298 manufactured in the first quarter of 1880. It has the correct stock with 1880 SWP cartouche, circle P and butt stock with opening for the tools, and the tools (not a “cut down” carbine from a rifle). It has the correct front sight, Model 1873 breechblock, lock plate, trigger, trigger guard and hammer. It has the correct barrel with factory markings and the barrel line is “indexed“ to the breech line (in other words, the barrel is the original barrel). It has the correct barrel band with the large “U” for the Model 1873. The rear sight is the correct Model 1879 Buckhorn with the letter “C” for carbine. The metal and stock show typical wear for a gun this age. Bore is good with no pitting. A real fine piece of American history, possibly used during the Indian Wars, the Wild West and probably the Spanish American War and later! MORE PICTURES AVAILABLE.
