Description:
SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model SA with rare 5" barrel and red mottled grips. Here is a decent Smith & Wesson 2nd model SA. Caliber is the S&W .38 black powder. S/N is 95852 and all matching throughout of course. This little gun has the bit harder to find 5" barrel. Also has the rare and hard to find red mottled grips. I do not usually mess with no finish guns but if they have a special feature and I can sell them reasonalely priced, I will buy them. The little Smith has no finish remaining. It was obviously a blued gun and all the finish is gone. The metal is a pretty smooth medium gray brown patina. It does show a small area on the right side of very fine pin prick pitting where the barrel swivels on the frame as you can see in the close up photo. It is not bad or deep into the metal but just want to mention for a proper and accurate description. The rest of the gun is pretty smooth. The mechanics are excellent. A very tight and crisp gun. It indexes perfectly on all chambers. There is NO cylinder wobble side to side or front to rear as you will find on well used revolvers of this type. This gun is rock solid with perfect solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and perfect tight fit at the hinge with NO play at all. All the markings are excellent as well. The rare red mottled grips are very nice and a perfect factory fit all around. It does show a small and tight crack on the bottom of the right grip as you can see in the photo. It is still solid and intack with no other issues. The checkering does show quite a bit of wear and is smooth but matches the rest of the gun perfectly just as they should. The bore is very good with strong rifling all the way through with just the normal and pretty minor roughness that you will find in a black powder revolver. Nothing bad or out of the norm. The chambers are smooth and clean with no pitting. Nothing fancy here but a very honestly used Smith & Wesson 2nd model revolver. You don't see many longer barrels or the red mottled grips on this model so here it is if you need one to fill a spot in your collection until something better comes along or just a very nice and tight shooter with proper black powder loads of course. Just an honest and never messed with little revolver at a reasonable price. $15 insured priority shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Thank you for looking and please see my other antique firearms while you are here as I may have something else of interest to you.
