Manufactured by Springfield Armory (1848-1859). Total units produced estimated from 5,804 to 6,703. .69 caliber smoothbore round barrel (26”) with bright finish. Bright finished brass mountings. Lock markings: Behind hammer SPRING/FIELD/1847, Barrel breach “V P and eagle motif”
Metal surfaces show pitting and rust damage. Brass mountings are bright. Hardwood stock has scratches and chips but no apparent cracks. Brass buttplate stamped "US"
