Description:
Serial #169871, .45-70, 32 5/8” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very nice rifle that has retained about 90% plus of the original blue which blends smoothly and evenly into a mellow plum-brown patina along the top of the barrel. There is still bright, original color case-hardening on the “US/MODEL/1873” marked, low-arch breechblock, and brighter colors remain on the underside. The lockplate and hammer have some pale fading along the edges and central radius respectively, but retain lots of the original blue nonetheless. The walnut stock has several small handling marks and minor blemishes scattered about the surface of the original military oil finish. The “SWP/1881” cartouche is crisp and clear on the left side of the wrist. Some additional small bruises are present along the forend and at the toe of the buttstock. The stock compartment is vacant, and there are some further small checks and marks around the butt. The original ramrod is still present, and the rifle rates fine condition overall. Antique
