Description:
Serial #204004, .45-70, 32 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle that has retained about 25-30% of the original blue on the barrel with the balance turned to a mellow, plum-brown patina that has silvered and faded from bayonet use at the muzzle. The lock and hammer have traces of muted color case-hardening with speckled gray-brown on the balance. The “MODEL 1873” marked, low arch breech also has a matching, mottled gray patina with dark brown freckling throughout, however there are traces of bright original color case-hardening next to the firing pin bolster as well as extensive colors on the protected underside of the block. The walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes throughout the armory-added oil, lightly sanded finish with a still quite crisp 1883 dated cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The action is still tight, the breech lock-up is firm, and the rifle is outfitted with an original metal ramrod. This is a great looking Trapdoor that is in very good-near fine condition overall.
