Burnside Carbine 5th Model (a.k.a Standard Model)
Manufactured by Burnside Rifle Co. of Providence, R.I. Approximately 43,000 units produced (1863-1865) and issued to cavalry regiments during the Civil War. .54 caliber carbine with 21” round and rifled barrel. Top of frame stamped BURNSIDE PATENT/ MARCH 25TH 1856. Breech release lever is built-in to the trigger guard. Pivoting rear leaf sight.
Record indicate that the barrels were blued with casehardened receiver. The subject has brown patina on most metal surfaces with light freckling. Stock and forend have dings and scratches but no apparent cracks.
