Description:
.41 Caliber Percussion Rifle with German silver mounts & patch box on side of one piece curly maple stock. Lock plate & top of barrel marked J.M. Garner. 52” OAL with a 35 1/4” heavy octagon under-ribbed barrel with very good bore showing strong rifling , double set triggers, buckhorn rear sight & blade front sight with rear tang sight(missing). Condition is very good showing strong wood with a couple thin cracks on the forend & a small chip on the left side just forward of lock. Mechanically sound & ramrod appears to be original.

James M. Garner was born 1820 in PA, moved to Ohio and worked with Benjamin B. Loar, Granville, OH (Licking County) Gunsmith in 1850’s (ref. vol 17, Association of Ohio Longrifle Collectors, August, 1995)

Garner worked in Bellefontaine, Logan County Ohio 1860-64. (ref. Hutslar pg 237)
