Description:
NSN, .58 Caliber, 40” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some darker spots of freckling towards the muzzle. The metal of this 1862 dated musket (matching on lock plate and barrel) have been lightly cleaned to armory bright with some very mild freckling at the muzzle as well as along the breech of the barrel, and a few subtle spots on the lock. There is further mild surface oxidation present on the fluted ramrod tip, and on the raised edges of the buttplate. The walnut stock has been lightly sanded with a rich military oil finish applied over scattered small handling marks and blemishes, most noticeably on the buttstock. There are some small surface scratches through the oil along its length, but the cartouches are still clear and legible. The mechanism is still tight and fully functional and the musket rates very good-fine condition overall. Antique
