We have had a Colt 38 Long come in that I am not really clear on. It looks a like a New Service Model, with the flat latch, and with the Cylinder which rotates counter-clockwise. It has military style plain wood grips, and has no serial number on the butt either. The Barrel however is marked on one side as “official Police” and 38 Special underneath that. (You should NOT shoot 38 Special in this gun I have been told...its was built for 38 long Colt.) The right side of the barrel carries the Hartford address. In contacting Colt, their person told us that this was a New Service Model that had been rebarreled with a later model barrel. They said that the military guns were retrofitted this way and issued to police. The interesting thing about this is that it’s marked with a single digit on the frame where the cylinder closes, and it’s marked with the same digit on the arm holding the Cylinder. Then that same number is on the flat latch. It’s number is “3”. The gun is in very good shape and locks up nicely. I am not a Colt Collector but there must be someone out there who can tell me more. Credit cards add 3%, we offer a 3 day non-firing inspection period. Must ship to an FFL and shipping is $40. Thanks for looking. Strength and Honor! SOLD |
