Description:
This item is a W. Foerster double rifle manufactured by custom gunsmith W. Foerster in the mid-to- late 19th century. This rifle is chambered in the custom 8.7x56 cartridge, and is in beautiful shape for its age. The barrel of this firearm indicates that it was manufactured in Berlin, and though it does not have a date to indicate its manufacture, it is known that this gun maker was a gunsmith for The Royal German Court, which only existed from 1871 to 1918. The barrels and receiver of this firearm are manufactured from Krupp steel, which is known to be a very fine and strong steel. The inside receiver of this firearm is brilliantly engraved with an eagle, what appears to be a representation of a church or a house with a cross on top, and the letter B. There is also an image of a crown over the letter N, and the letters “St M.G.” as well as “18Gr” Though these are difficult to see in pictures due to being engraved so small, an image of this will be included in the pictures below. The wood and metal are both in excellent shape, and the only damage that this firearm seems to have incurred is that the trigger guard is broken in the front, but still strongly attached in the rear. Despite the amount of time and effort that it must have taken the manufacturer, every screw and metallic surface, are beautifully engraved. This is true regardless of whether or not the screw or surface is hidden from view. The rifling in both barrels of this firearm are flawless, and very deep grooved. This rifle weighs in at 7 lbs. 11 oz. and has a barrel length of 23 5/8” and an overall length of 39 ¾”. Don’t miss your chance to add this beautiful German rifle to your collection!
