Description:
A fine Miquelet type pistol in excellent condition. Most likely made in Spain where the miquelet type lock originated in the period between 1690 and 1730. There is a full walnut stock with a 9" cannon type barrel. Caliber is approximately .45. barrel and lock are finished in bright metal. The trigger guard and butt cap are brass. The butt cap is heavy and contains a grotesque face image. It was obviously designed to be used as a club if necessary. The ramrod has a brass tip There is no makers name evident. . There is however a mark on the lock which is either a proof or makers mark. The action works fine with the hammer holding on both full and half cock. The Miquelet lock mechanism may be said to be the first type of flintlock. The flintlock of course placed a lot of the lock workings inside the stock while the miquelet had everything outside.
