BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET BY GOFF DATED 1793. .78 cal. 39” smoothbore sighted barrel. Extra nice example in original flint configuration and not a reconversion. Beautiful barrel markings with nice E.I.C. “HEART/4” and “GOFF-1793” in large engraved lettering and with George III Ordnance proofs at the left breech. Lovely original medium grey metal patina. These saw long service all the way into the mid 1800’s and this one is arsenal date stamped “1849” at the breech as well. Lock plate with East India Company “HEART/4” engraved at the tail. Stock with most of the original finish and a very crisp “CROWN/EW” Ordnance Inspector cartouche for Col. Edward Windus. Period of use repair to the forend wood near the muzzle which is very old probably dating to the 1849 date stamp. Superior condition overall and with the original ramrod. Scarce. SOLD Antique: Yes |
