KETLAND & CO. FLINTLOCK TRADE PISTOL CIRCA. 1790’S. Original trade pistol of the type sold and traded to the native tribes of many countries and particularly those of North America. These simple but sturdy pistols were purchased by trading companies and offered for sale or barter to natives as well as trappers and hunters. 14” o/a with .67 cal. smoothbore 8” barrel stamped “LONDON” in an engraved cartouche and having a trade “tulip” engraved on the tang. Lock plate stamped “W./ KETLAND/ & CO.” Border engraved brass mounts and walnut stock. Brass tipped hickory ramrod. All original and complete with metal extra crisp with medium grey patina. Stock refinished long ago and with a tiny sliver missing along the left forend near the muzzle. Often encountered heavily used this example is in far above average condition. W. Ketland & Co. of Lombard St., Birmingham is known to have operated until 1799 after which there is no listing. SOLD Antique: Yes |
