Open work gilded brass honeysuckle demi-basket hilt guard with ruby eye lion head pommel and an incorporated “CROWN/EL” cypher for Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt. Bakelite grip with brass wire. Plain steel scabbard with original black paint. All original and excellent plus with all the polish on the blade and much gilding on the guard. Clemen & Jung, Solingen maker’s mark on the ricasso. Extra nice WW1 sword and scarce. Duke Ernst Ludwig was a grandson of Queen Victoria and served on the Kaiser’s Staff during the War.
