Description:
Inv. 5575 Springfield Model 1888 (Ramrod Bayonet), Caliber .45-70, Serial Number1379XX. Magnificent. This had to be King of the Arsenal for the last 128 years.  It appear in every respect to be un-fired.  The blue finish is an easy 97-98%.  I frankly believe it is much better than that.  The beautiful case hardened lock has faded slightly too about 80-85% with just a few scattered pinpricks on the firing pin tunnel.  The hammer, again about 95-98% and the lock with the clearly stamped Eagle and U.S. Springfield also about the same, there isn't even a pinprick.  The Barrel bands show a few scattered pin pricks and the U.S. stamped butt plate a bout same 95-97% with a very small patch of surface erosion about the size of a pea.  The barrel is stamped vertically V, P, Eagle Head, P and a right angle an A.  The beautiful dark walnut stock is also flawless retaining almost all of the original arsenal lacquer.  No dents, no nicks and no splits.  The left wrist has the inspector's cartouche, a square with the initials SWP over 1889.  The chamber and bolt face show absolutely no use.  The bore is as the day it left the Springfield.  Mirror bright, and razor sharp rifling with absolutely no graying.  There is not a sign that a bullet has been thru it since it left the arsenal.  Truthfully it looks unfired.  It just doesn't get much better than this at almost any price.         $2195.
