Description:
THE SEARCH FOR THE IDEAL STALKING RIFLE

Like some of you, I've hunted with heavy, scoped rifles for years before I came to fully appreciate the wisdom of the open sight carbine. Because we carry a rifle far more than we actually shoot it while hunting, I now prefer a rifle that is lightweight, short, and handy. The Ruger No.1-A provides the basis for what I now want in the form of my Ruger No.1 Stalking Rifle.

The Stalking Rifle is generally a short, handy, lightweight, and reasonably accurate rifle. One which is used at short distance where game can bolt literally from your feet. Here your rifle should handle more like a shotgun. There may also be the possibility of an occasional  long shot and so accuracy and sights need to be adequate for the job.  The Ruger No. 1 is the ideal basis for creating the classic 19th Century English Stalking Rifle.

We now offer the stock modifications that will convert your Number One into a sleek and classic English Stalking Rifle. The service consists of lowering and thinning the comb, reducing the bulk of the forearm by thinning and reshaping and the addition of a faux ebony tip. Refinishing with a hand-rubbed oil finish and restoring the original-pattern checkering completes the process.

The cost for this service is only $500 and results in a wonderful custom English Stalking Rifle without the high cost for restocking. Also, we don't need your complete rifle to perform this transformation - only the buttstock and forearm, which can be sent directly to us without the need of an FFL dealer.

RUGER NO. 3 CUSTOM RIFLES

We now offer our stock refining services for the Ruger No. 3 as well. Our service consists of lowering and thinning the comb, reducing the bulk of the forearm by thinning and reshaping and the addition of a genuine Sharps-style pewer tip which really lends that authentic 19th Century styling. Refinishing with a hand-rubbed oil finish completes the process.

The cost for this service is only $500 and results in a stunning, lightweight and handy American Saddle Rifle.

TAKEDOWN CONVERSION - MULTI-CALIBRE BARREL SYSTEM

We are pleased to announce that we have developed a system by which Ruger No.1 & No. 3 rifles can be converted to a takedown system that will allow interchanging barrels of multiple calibres. No need to make one cartridge do it all. Now you can hunt varmints in the Spring and Summer with a small-bore calibre and swap barrels to a larger calibre in the Fall for big game hunting.

Our system also eliminates forearm bedding problems and the variable accuracy associated with the Ruger single shots. The result is that the forearm is bedded directly to the barrel like traditional single shot rifles.

INTRODUCING THE RENNER NO.1 AND NO.3 TANG SIGHT

The current breed of aperture sights for the Ruger No.1 are perched on the rib and become the only rear sight.  Not only are they too far from the eye, they're generally so high as to require a higher front sight to achieve a 100-yard zero. What was needed was a folding tang sight like those used on classic old-time single shot and lever action rifles. But how to attach it and keep a functional safety was the problem.

We figured it out!

ALSO FOR SALE:

CUSTOM RUGER NO.1 - .35 WHELEN - $1,850.00
This custom Ruger No.1 has been rebarreled for the classic .35 Whelen cartridge and features a 24-inch Douglas barrel with a 12-inch twist and is of the “S” configuration for perfect weight and balance. In addition to its custom barrel, this Number One also features beautiful casehardening of the receiver, lever, and grip cap. The handsome stocks are original to the rifle and did not require replacement to create this spectacular custom rifle.

EARLY RUGER NO. 1 BUTTSTOCK AND FOREARM
We also have for sale a very early (1971) Ruger No.1 factory buttstock and forearm. The inside of forearm is stamped JAN 20 1971.
The stock does show some wear and tear and there is a well-repaired crack in the bottom of the forearm. Additional photos are available for serious parties. The price is $200.00 Call or email for more information.

RENNER RUGER NO.3 - THE GREAT AMERICAN SADDLE RIFLE
This is the actual prototype rifle used in our ad photos. It's of early 1974 production so it has the one line barrel address - NO warning! - and is chambered for the all-time favorite .45-70 Government. Seen only on some of the very early Number Three rifles is the beautiful walnut found on this rifle. Other features include the factory metal buttplate, nitre blued screws, the Sharps-pattern genuine pewter forearm cap, and our own Renner No.1 Tang Sight. The slenderizing of the stock allowed for the sculpting of graceful panels on the front of the wrist which gives the rifle a disctinctive and classic 19th Century look.

Mechanically, the rifle is like new, very tight and crisp and has seen little if any field use. The rifling is sharp and shiny as is the exterior bluing. All in all it's a very handsome rifle that is short and handy and handles like a dream. You have to feel it to appreciate the wonderful result of removing just a few millimeters of wood - in the right places.

Price: $1,350.00 for the rifle, $1,550.00 with the Renner No.1 Tang Sight.
