Description:
This is a handsome sword that measures 37 3/8” overall with a 30 5/16” straight blade having 1/4 length central fullers. The blade itself has practically all of the beautiful, original factory polish remaining with both the Eickhorn squirrel logo and a small Luftwaffe (eagle)/5 acceptance proof within the fuller on the forte reverse. The original blade washer is no longer present, however the hilt fits the blade perfectly without any gaps or rattling. The silver plated hilt fittings have developed a pleasant dark purple-gray tarnish over time with yellow-ochre brass “sunwheel” emblems on both the crossguard bolsters and disk pommel (there is some silver loss on the pommel which exposes a large amount of the underlying brass on both sides). The blue Morocco grip has some wear-through on the interior side were it meets the grip bolster, caused by contact with the no longer present hanger while being worn, and the double strand wire wrap is intact. The scabbard has an intact original blue Morocco covering with matching tarnish on the silver throat and chape. This is a fantastic example of a World War II Luftwaffe sword with a superbly preserved blade, and would make a great addition to any collection.
