Description:
Colt Model 1878 "Frontier Six Shooter" DA Revolver - Cal. .44-40 - 5 1/2" Bbl. SN 26XXX(1890). Bore is near perfect - bright and shiny with sharp rifling and anly a couple of very small spots - action is excellent with perfect timing and lock-up in both DA and SA. Metal is excellent overall with no rust, pits, or corrosion - a few small areas of light spotting near upper frame strap in front of the cylinder - sharp markings and "Rampant Colt" logo. Retains about 60% - 65% original nickel finish overall with areas of flaking on parts of , cylinder, frame and backstrap. Hard rubber grips are undamaged with clear logo and only moderate wear to the checkering. The 1878 DA was a popular large bore early West sidearm and was known to be used by such characters as "Pawnee Bill", capt. Jack Crawford, and Buffalo Bill. This 1878 is all original, fully functional and in FINE or better condition and will make a great addition to an early Colt or Old West collection.
