Description:
#4916 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB 44WCF, 3rd Variation , 173XXX (1884), smooth tight action, about a 6+ bore that should clean to a 7 but does have lead scale and light pitting the entire length. Still, it looks like it should still spin a bullet and be reasonably accurate to 75-100 yards. The exterior is an even smooth thin grey-brown patina with VG+ wood that shows just the usual light bumps and dings of 130 years and no serious damage. There is some abuse to the ejection top port and also the brass elevator bottom, probably from some frustrated cowboy trying to dig out a stuck cartridge case after the action gummed up from black powder residue (see photos). It also has some previous owners scratched identification on the left front lower edge of the receiver “EJG”. With some careful emory cloth use, this should be removed with relative ease. (This was probably the same clown who nicked up the ejection port!) Standard trigger, pinched blade front and buckhorn rear sight. Nothing special, but an overall decent appearance and just a bit better than the usual no-finish ’73 in this price range. About VG. $1875
