Description:
#4846 Colt 1861 New Model Navy revolver, converted to 38RF, G-VG bore (6+), VG action. This is the variation that was numbered in its own serial range and having the two line patent dates on the frame, serial number in the 21XX range. But what is somewhat unusual (in this case) is that it is fitted with the iron straps, which were used on the USN marked revolvers. Being as this Navy revolver has no visible military inspectors markings (that I can see), it is therefore not likely a USN issued gun in MY opinion. It does have decent smooth metal with a neutral grey patina and average wear …but probably not enough wear to have the USN worn off of the buttstrap. No cylinder scene remains aside of a few weak lines and the clear serial number (which, by the way, all numbers do match), and the grips are VG as well. Only about 3000 of this early conversions were made. VG overall. $1795
