These are considered Civil War rifles based on material found in 1972, which states these were the first breech loading cartridge guns built by a national armory. The lock is dated 1864, with an eagle and US Springfield. These were assembled using Joslyn locks and actions and stocks built for this weapon. This one is in excellent condition, with excellent wood. All numbers match, which means the caliber is 56/50 RF. The bore is excellent. The sights are original.
