- Note: This is a rare opportunity to own a serious piece of law enforcement history. The model 81 Remington was produced for a period of 14 years from 1936-1950. LA County Sheriffs purchased 199 model 81's of which 45 were fitted with the Peace Officer Equipment Co. 15 round magazine modification. In April of 1973, gun smith John Barkley of Van Nuys, CA was awarded ato trade new firearms for LA County's 1894 Winchesters and Remington model 81's. At that time, our business was loacted in Encino, CA, about 4 miles from John Barkley. Subsequently we purchased half of those firearms. This particular model 81, was sold to an advanced arms collector in California along with a matching LA County 1894 saddle ring carbine. The sales award paperwork, confirms the serial number of this model 81 as well as the 1894 saddle ring carbine, which we have listed seperately. This firearm is in near mint condition, save a few handling marks on the stock and forend. The 15 round mangazine modification is serialized to the gun. The gun is mounted with a Remington model 1A tang peep sight, probably manufactured by Lyman. Accompanying the firearm, will be a copy of the sales award listing the serial number. This is truly a rare opportunity to be able to own the gun and the supporting documentation. Note: as mentioned above, we are listing seperately the LA County Winchester 1894 SRC as well as a Winchester 1894 LA Police Department SRC, all out of the same collection.
