Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. 38-40. Octagon Barrel. Here is a very nice 1873 Winchester. S/N  350187 and made in 1890. It is in the excellent shooting and very accurate 38-40 caliber. Has the standard 24" barrel. The bore is just good on this one. It has the typical black powder roughness but NO rings or bulges. The rifling is visible all the way through but shows some wear and some roughness but NO big pits or craters. I have shot this gun as I do ALL of my antique rifles and it shoots straight and is still accurate. This is why I love the 38-40 caliber as it is very forgiving for accuracy even with far less than nice bores. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. NO bulged cases or backed out primers. All the springs are strong and positive as are both hammer notches. Still retains the original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw but you should still retract it by hand to save from more wear. Many of these 73's have no dust covers as they will be very loose and bind up the action so the old timers just removed them and threw them away. The metal is very nice. It has a very smooth medium to dark brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. Just the way you love to find them. So many have been cleaned on but this one is untouched by the butchers you see so often. NO pitting on the gun anywhere. Still retains the original front and rear sights. The rear sight has had the top of the buckhorn filed down a bit as you commonly see on these  Winchesters. ALL of the markings are excellent and very crisp. I pulled the camera on the barrel address photo as it shows up a little blurry but it is very strong and crisp. The wood is very nice also. The forearm has NO cracks or splits and fits tigh to the metal. Has one very small chip on the front left side by the end cap as you can see in the photo. NO other issues at all. The butt stock is very niced as well. NO splits or cracks and fits fairly tight to the metal. It does show a little larger chip of wood loss on the right side by the upper tang by the receiver as you can see. No other issues and just shows some honest wear but NO abuse. This is a very honest 73 that shows some honest use but never abused. It shoots just fine and would be an great shooter or collector at a most reasonable price. ALL of my items are test fired by me and do not need several hundred dollars worth of parts and labor to get back in shooting condition. Even though I have fired this gun I will not be responcilbe for those who have no knowledge in loading and firing antique firearms. I take the time to write very complete descriptions and photos but if you want more photos or have any questions, please let me know and I will be glad to give them to you. I want happy customers !!! $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 if you have any questions.
