Description:
Inv. 4897

DWM, Model 1903, "Fat Barrel" American Eagle stamped, Cal. 9mm, Serial Number 22957.

Called "Fat Barrel" because there was a short run of approximately 650 with considerably thicker barrels known to have been produced.  These are actually much rarer than the Luger carbine.  The reason for the manufacture of this pilot run of "fat barrels" remains unknown.  This 111 year old Luger is rare, and in this nice condition it is indeed a real nice find.  The gun retains about +96% of the original factory blue.  There are several very shallow pits on a couple of the high edges and the usual wear on the side plate and muzzle.  The grip straps and grip safety show some very slight graying.   There are also some very slight scattered pin pricks on the barrel and elsewhere.  That's all.  All parts match, including the fat barrel, which also has the chamber dimensions on it.   The bore is quite bright, sharp, and crisp with some very slight graying.   The matching walnut grips have darkened from oil over the years and show little or no sign of wear, with just a few points flattened.  No chips or cracks anywhere.   In addition to the sharp American Eagle stamp on the receiver, the gun has all the proper period proofs and is marked Germany on the frame under the serial number.   Included with the gun is one proper, rare, walnut bottomed magazine with "Cal 9 m/m" stamped horizontally on the bottom. Overall the gun is just a really super example of a very scarce factory variation. Think about it, when was the last time you saw a "Fat Barrel" for sale, let alone at this price...

$7,995.
