SPENCER MODEL 1860/ CIVIL WAR CARBINE 50 CALIBER 15-98

Spencer Model 1860 civil warCarbine, 50 Caliber. The 22” barrel model 1860 civil war model was made 1863-1865 (the 1865 model had a 20” barrel). In 1867 the government had many of these carbines restocked and refinished at the factory to government specifications. Standard Markings on top of the receiver: Spencer Repeating Rifle Company/Pat March, 1860 Oct./5/1852 metal markings are faint but readable and distinguishable after factory refinish. Walnut stock with light varnish finish (See Flayderman page 633) Serial number 20336.
 
Post War Alteration for Above. Altered by Springfield Armory c.1867-1874. 50 caliber rimfire (56-52 and 56-50 interchangeable). 22” barrel sleeved for smaller caliber; three grooved rifling. These arms are often arsenal refinished and restocked; markings will often appear weak or thin. They are desirable and the amount of reblue and recasehardening is important to evaluating. Over 11,000. Altered.
 
Condition: Metal has light corrosion. Wood has some cracks, dents, and dings. Bore has corrosion. Works Ok mechanically. Overall a good condition1860. Spencer with stabler cutoff. (15-98) $1,700.00
