Description:
SALE PENDING
Sharps rifle, converted from percussion to center fire .45 2 1/10”, 28” barrel.  Except for this rifle having a single trigger it fits the following excerpt from “Sharps Firearms” by Frank Sellers:

“Another group of factory conversions was made for various dealers starting in 1879.  Only the first 400 of this group of conversions were made in military style.  The remainder, slightly less than 4,000, were in sporting style, primarily light weight .40 and .45 caliber with double set triggers.

The action of these conversions clearly show its percussion origins.  The conversion called for grinding down the lockplate to remove the primer mechanism, and to make it look as much as possible like the standard Model 1874 rifle plate; a small “hump’ is left at the front of the the plate behind the hammer for this 1874 hammer and short half cock tumbler…The lockplate still bears the marks C. SHARPS’ PAT OCT. 5th 1852”.

It also goes on to say that the barrels were renumbered to the original frame serial number. (see bottom of barrel photo)

This rifle remains in antique fine condition with great mechanics and a very nice bore.  Weighs 8 lbs. 3 oz.
