Description:
Serial #P6155, 7.65mm Argentine, 29” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has hints of freckling within the grooves. This is a “scrubbed” rifle that has had the national crest removed from the receiver prior to export and the remainder of the metal has approximately 90-92% of the original blue remaining with scattered specks of mild surface freckling throughout. Nearly all of the numbers match (only the cleaning rod is mismatched) and the bolt has an overall mottled gray patina while the latch has faint traces of the original nitre bluing in the otherwise dull, plum-brown patina. The walnut stock has a numerous minor handling blemishes and small bruises scattered about the original military oil finish with filled, but still legible, Argentine cartouche on the right side of the butt. “Scrubbed” rifles like this were supplied to Paraguay for use against Bolivia during the ruinous Chaco War of 1932-1935 (despite Argentina's declared neutrality) in order to secure oil rights in the contested region. This is an excellent example and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
