#13381, J. Purdey & Sons: A Bar Action Sidelock Ejector 12 Bore Game Gun Made 1889 and now with 25" Ejector barrels installed by Churchill & marked "E. J. Churchill (Gunmakers) Ltd. - 39 to 42 Leicester Square, London" between 1925 to 1934 before they moved to Orange Street, Dovetail lumps at .726 .011 & .023" (Imp.Cyl. & Mod.), Original 2 1/2" chambers, Wall thickness on the right barrel at .031" and .032" on the left barrel, London proved at 1 1/8 ounce with 2 1/2" chambers, Double triggers, Bushed strikers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Straight hand stock at 14 3/8 x 1 5/8 x 2 3/8" over a checkered butt, Cast-Off for the right hand with a slight swept comb, It points like a dream, Very nice wood, Great game weight at 6 lbs. 10 oz., 85% coverage of period Purdey rose & scroll, The wood fore & aft is as stout as you could hope to have. This piece remains in very nice condition since it left Churchill somewhere around 1925 to 1934. The barrel blue remains at 88-90%, no case colors remain, the stock finish remains at 85%, the checkering at 96% and excellent bores. It is cased in a leather cornered leather Churchill "V.C." trunk with a Churchill trade labels. This piece with excellent bores, chokes and 2 1/2" chambers has a lot of life left and remains smack on the face. This piece comes to the hand with ease and points like a dream with the swept comb and ideal cast-off. This is a doggone nice gun.
