Description:
Serial #13559, .22 LR, 19” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a rare rifle that has a two-piece stock with downward-folding hinge just ahead of the trigger guard, and a grooved release latch on top of the wrist, just behind the receiver. The metal retains 80-85% of the original blue finish with streaks of silvering and plum-brown fading along both the barrel and receiver. The bolt has a mostly bright gray patina along the body, but has turned to a dark brown color on the handle. The rifle is equipped with the original early type double aperture flip-up rear sight, as well as a period-added flip-up V-notch sight on the barrel. The English walnut stock has an attractive straight grain with numerous minor handling marks and small surface blemishes scattered about the original varnish finish. These handy little rifles broke down for storage by depressing the wrist latch and folding the front section of the rifle down with the trigger guard and barrel muzzle coming to rest in form-fit cradles inlet into the wood. The second type Pocket Rifle was nearly identical, but had a slightly different bolt and rear sight, as well as a folding trigger to reduce the chance of snagging. Only about 1,075 of these rifles were ever made, and this example is in fine-near excellent condition. {Ref. “The Golden Century – A Concise Illustrated History of the Commercial Gun Production of BSA” by John Knibbs; 2002} FFL or C&R
