Description:
Serial #1376, .22 LR, 25” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an RFI marked, 1940 dated SMLE rifle conversion that retains about 90-95% of an armory applied Suncorite finish that has spots of silvering plum-brown freckling and gray fading along the high edges where the Suncorite has either flaked or worn. The matching numbered bolt is in fine shape with a “U” marked bolt head with some further finish wear along the bearing surfaces. The stock and handguards have been arsenal refinished to fine condition with a matching serial number on the underside of the forend just behind the nosecap. An original magazine housing (minus the follower and spring) is present, and a period canvassling is installed. The right side of the butt has extensive Indian cartouches and arsenal markings along with a rack number and two small stamps: “ESA/5” and ESA/RPD”. This is a fine-near excellent example of a .22 SMLE training rifle and would make a great addition to any collection. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R
