Description:
#3859 Starr 1858 D/A Army 44percussion-to-cartridge revolver, early 1870s after-market conversion to 45COLT. The bore is very good (about a 7 on a scale of 10), the action has a sticky trigger return and as seems to be common, the S/A to D/A trigger selector slide has been removed, but it still operates correctly on both modes and looks like it should be a fine shooter after being tuned up a little and blessed by a good gunsmith who is well versed on such antiques. This revolver has the typical sub-contractors refinish in the matte’ blue with just traces remaINing; most being a thin plum brown patina. As is common, this revolver does show some scattered minor pitting, as these were used Army surplus guns that were then purchased by various contractors who then converted them to cartridge guns and then resold them to civilian sources. This one does bear what looks to me to be German proof house markings, and it’s a strong possibility that this was surplussed to Germany, converted there, and then either sold back to American wholesalers or sold to the German military. Grips show medium wear and some minor chips at the toe. About VG/VG+ as described, $1195
