Description:
Serial #48421 (Reg. #1078), .357 Magnum, 8 3/4” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This handsome revolver has all matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, extractor, yoke, and barrel, and has retained 92-95% of the original blue finish that exhibits some mild silvering at the muzzle with some further silvering and light fading along the projecting edges. The cylinder has a moderate turn-ring on the rear of the cylinder, while the grooved hammer and trigger have most of their bright original color case-hardening remaining with some midl fading along the edges. The walnut Magna grips, original and numbered to the gun on the interior, are in excellent condition with only a few minor marks and some minor flattening of the points. The action functions and times flawlessly, and the lock-up is tight. A large amount of documentation accompanies the revolver including a 2015 S&W Factory Letter that lists a ship date of May 25, 1936 to Santa Rita Trading Co., Cut Bank, MT along with a single box of .357 ammunition. Also included is a sheaf of S&W Historical Foundation documents pertaining to the revolver and shows that the actual order was placed by Janney-Semple Hill & Co. of Minneapolis for a 10” barreled revolver and box of ammunition for forwarding to Santa Rita Trading Co. Answering correspondence from S&W states that 8 3/4” is the longest available barrel length and holds the order pending customer approval. A letter dated April 25, 1936 from Janney-Semple Hill & Co. approves the barrel length and requests expedited shipment. This is a splendid Registered Magnum, in excellent condition, and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
