Description:
#4816 Marlin-Ballard No. 1-1/2 “Hunters Rifle”, round barrel, 28”x40/65 (40/70Ballard) caliber with Fine bore ..about an “8” on a scale of 10, and a tight action. Made between 1879 to 1883, these were simple, uncomplicated, but sturdy single-shot Sporting Rifles capable of most big game in North America. Very good metal with just minor scattered light pitting, bumps and bruises under an old period reblue. Markings are somewhat light but readable. Standard trigger, standard open front and low buckhorn rear barrel sights, and post style accessory tang sight, as well. Aside of a reasonably well-done sliver repair to one side of the forestock, the wood is very good and the overall look of the rifle is at least “VG++” or better. A nice early 1880s handsome single-shot rifle in a pretty big caliber! Betcha it has a pretty noticeable thump to ones shoulder when you pop off a few rounds in this old Boomer. VG+ as described. $1695
