Description:
#3889 Winchester 1893 Slide Action Shotgun, 12gauge w/30” barrel, 26XXX range (c,1895). This scarce early slide action scattergun was another of the genius John Browning designs, but the Model 1893  was rushed into production before all the bugs were worked out, and so Browning continued to improve the reliability and soon the Model 1987 replaced the 1893. Winchester then made a dedicated effort to recoup all the '93s, and offered big rebates to get the troublesome model '93 off the market. They are consequently rarely encountered. This specimen was apparently sent back to Winchester many years ago (after the Model 12 had come out) to be rebarreled and refinished, and thus has the later patent dates in the address and proofed barrel but still retains the 1893 slide date logo. The bore is Ex.Fine and it is chambered for the later 2-3/4” casings (unlike the original barrel chambered for the 2-5/8” all-brass casing). HOWEVER!! The frame has NOT been proof marked and so this should ONLY be used with either black-powder or Smokeless with very low pressure loads. For the “Cowboy Action” enthusiasts or shootists, this is a rare opportunity to be able shoot a Winchester pre-1898 slide action in excellent condition!! Overall, this fine gun retains about 90% of the excellent refinish, missing only where the action slides, action is tight as new, wood is excellent, bore is about a “8-1/2 to 9” on a scale of 10 …and it is an ANTIQUE. $1295 .....SALE!!  $1195
