SOLD...Antique 3rd model Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless. .38 Caliber. Here is a very nice little Smith & Wesson safety hammerless revolver. Is in the .38 S&W black powder caliber. S/N 92572 and is well in the antique S/N range as the 3rd models run from S/N 42484 to S/N 116002 and all made from 1890 to 1898. The S/N are ALL matching on the frame, barrel and cylinder. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel. This little gun still shows quite a bit of original finish. The barrel has about 80% original nickel finish. The cylinder has about 50% and the frame has about 65%. The balance of the finish a smooth light brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. NO pitting on the gun anywhere. Most all the blue remains on the trigger guard. The trigger still shows very bright and vivid case colors. The action is in excellent working condition. It is as tight as a new gun. NO cylinder play side to side or front to rear. It indexes perfectly on all 5 chanbers and locks up like a bank vault. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. This gun is in perfect working condition and would make a nice shooter with proper black powder loads of course. The rebounding firing pin works perfectly. The bore is mint, mirror bright like new.. The chambers are also mint and mirror bright like new... All the markings are excellent as well. All the screw heads are sharp and not burred up. The grips are excellent with NO cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit. This is a gun that looks to have been carried much more than it was shot. These were very popular hide out revolvers in their day. You would have a snag free draw froma coat pocket and in the very fast double action. Smith & Wesson still makes a hammerless double action only revolver today as the idea was a great one even back in the 1880's.. Very nice little S&W revolver for the $$$. Shipping is $15 insured.
