SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1868 .50-70 CAL. TRAPDOOR INFANTRY RIFLE. All original and complete in very good condition. Matching serial numbers and Breech block dated “1870” with “EAGLE HEAD/CROSSED ARROWS/U.S.” inspection stamp on breech block. Crisp “EAGLE/U.S./SPRINGFIELD” lock marking. Nice grey original patina with light salt and pepper on metal and all the stock with the original dark lightly worn dark patinated finish. No visible cartouche or “P” circled proof. Original sights and ramrod. Bore with moderate pitting but good rifling with not much wear. These saw much service in the post Civil War Indian Wars.
