Description:
Highly sought after/rare 16.5 inch Dahlgren Bowie Bayonet with all the proper Ames maker marks. USN with an anchor and dated 1862 and AMES Mfg. Co Chicopee Mass. This one has seen the elephant and it looks like it saw some real combat. Blade has a grayish patina with slight pitting at the tip only. Period razor sharp sharpening . Lots of dents and marks in the brass handle. Brass patina and blade has not been cleaned. Wood is aged. Handle is a little loose but the knife is still structurally rock solid. Rare, authentic Dahlgren Bowie priced accordingly due to wear. Hard to find a real Dahlgren under $1000 anywhere. More photos available upon request.
